translational symmetry
The symmetry that a figure has if it can be made to fit exactly onto the original when it is translated a given distance at a given direction. Translational symmetry exists only for infinite patterns. When dealing with a finite pattern, it is understood that translational symmetry would be true only if the pattern were to continue indefinitely.
